3d map of Australia

Australia’s geology is diverse and ancient, with some of the Earth’s oldest rocks, dating back over 3.7 billion years. The continent’s geological features range from vast deserts and mineral-rich regions to mountainous terrains and unique landforms. Its geology is characterized by stable cratons (old continental cores), such as the Pilbara and Yilgarn cratons, surrounded by sedimentary basins. These structures host extensive mineral resources, including iron, gold, coal, and natural gas, making Australia one of the world’s leading mining countries. Tectonic stability and minimal volcanic activity define Australia’s landscape, with erosion shaping much of its arid interior.
